STILL GOT IT WRONG.

Guess I spoke sooner than I ought to.

But seriously, who cares?! Miami Heat was beat by the Dallas Mavericks in six games!

Take that LBJ!
I wonder if LBJ will end up just like John Stockton and Karl Malone, two of the "Ring-Less" basketball greats.

But let's see, maybe I am speaking too soon again.

So that's bye bye NBA for now and hello PBA!

Ginebra won last night. :)

NBA Blake Griffin Weekend

Last year was a blah. The Slam Dunk Competition was a complete joke and the All Star Game was filled with injured starters (who weren't able to start at all).

This year's All Star Weekend has to be a good one..and it is.

BLAKE GRIFFIN DAY 1

Saturday morning got me all occupied watching John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and Blake Griffin busting the sophomores in a game I expected for the Rookies to win. I got my wish and John Wall was named MVP.

Blake wasn't given too many exposures for he will be dominating the 3-day festivities. Besides, they wanted a healthy, injury-free "Beast" for the Slam Dunk Competition.

BLAKE GRIFFIN DAY 2

All Star Saturday. Shooting Stars competition was won by the Atlanta Team, while the Skills competition had Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. The 3-point shootout was a huge surprise. Miami Heat's James Jones won against Boston Celtics shooters Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. For a moment there, I almost forgot that JJ was a part of the final shootout. There were so much hype for Ray and Paul. Well, so much for the "stars" I guess. That win got Dwayne Wade (and his girly brooch) on his feet. Oh and yeah, there was the Slam Dunk competition too.

There were a lot of theatrics that involved a teddy bear, a lost kid, 2 balls, McGee's mom and a loud Kenny Smith. But through it all, Javale McGee and (wait for it) Blake Griffin went one on one in what seemed to be the best slamdunk showdown in years now.

Blake's homage to Vince Carter's elbow ripping slam was his best while I thought that McGee's 2-ball slam was very genius. Serge Ibaka should be given props too, for his effort and creativity with the stuff toy dunk, but there you go.

The car dunk by Blake? I find it too..flashy. But Baron Davis sure had a lot of fun watching it. Nice pass too. The problem with McGee's final dunk was that he kind of gave up the theatrics to do a clean slam that should have been his first act. Honestly, it's hard to regain the hype after Blake's "dramatic" shot.

And yes, Blake got the trophy. I wish to see him again next year along with Dwight Howard, Nate Robinson, Vince Carter and (wait for it) LeBron James, who have been promising to join year after year. (and not really doing it) Now that is something to watch out for.

BLAKE GRIFFIN DAY 3

The crowd chants "we want Blake!"
Kobe dunks on LeBron.
DWade injured.
Boston stars snubbed.

This is an all-out All Star game.

The East first five, led by (wait for it) LeBron James did the chalk toss.
But Kobe is in it to win it.
LeBron put out an amazing triple-double stat, but this wasn't enough to give the Eastern squad a win. West won the game with 148-143, naming the Black Mamba as MVP.

Kobe is now a four-time All Star MVP, tied with the most number of ASMVPs with Bob Pettit. Kevin Durant could've won co-MVP, but it's in LA so better give it to the guy in LA.

Kobe proves to be the brightest star in the city of stars, but definitely, Blake Griffin has KO'd this festivity with a dominating 3-0 win.

Rookies. Slam Dunk. All Star Game.

You go Blake! Yey for Kobe! Now get back to work.

I hate the King

Ok, hate is a strong word but really, there is something wrong with this man. Yes, he is a great basketball player, but he’s also one hell of a diva.

Yep, diva.

As I type down these words right now, Miami Heat (LBJ’s new found home) is battling the Cleveland Cavaliers (LBJ’s former home). The boos, teases and taunting are there, but LeBron is dominating the game. He did the chalk toss and got a collective uproar from the audience (mostly boos). I would have been booing him too if I can help it. I don’t know, there’s really something about LeBron that I hate.

Maybe it’s because he’s too “mayabang”. But most players in the NBA are one too, even Kobe. Some of the local players in the PBA also have a long list of bragging rights, but his is different.

“No Ring-King”. Yes he is. So, what’s up with him being so “mayabang”?  Because of his skills? Fine. But you know what, until you put that ring on it and until you learn how to respect your team, we’re not good. And I still hate you.

'Tis STILL the season of balls

It is still the season of balls and I’m not complaining about it. I was just a basketball freak before, but now, I think I’m starting to appreciate other ball sports such as tennis and that very infamous soccer (or football, whatever you want to call it).

It’s a learning process and I’m lucky to have friends who are willing to give me a little bit of background on what’s going on in that side of the world of sports. Setting aside the physical attractions of the players involved with those sports, I am just starting to get a knack for it. And that’s me who hasn’t tweeted for a week now. No Twitter, no overcapacity.

Rafa’s Revenge

Rafael Nadal bagged the Wimbledon title as smooth as a silk. He swept the match against his opponent Tomas Berdych. As to what I’ve read online, Rafa redeemed his glory as he was sidelined for an injury last year. But things are looking quite good for him these days. After winning the French open, he now gets the Wimbledon title back. Roger Federer wasn’t able to defend his title as he was eliminated incidentally in a match against Berdych. Another notable story for this tournament was the 11-gruelling-hour match by Isner and Mahut. It was the longest tennis match ever recorded in history as per my friend Mia.

World Cup Weeps

Now this is another sport that I’m starting to understand and get interested with. Spectators all around the world were starting to weep day by day as their teams bid goodbye to the tourney. Early favorites Argentina and Brazil were already eliminated, which brought tears to tons of men and women alike. But I guess one of the momentous tearjerkers of the series was when Cristiano Ronaldo, his hotness and the rest of the Portugal team were sent home after a sorry loss against the powerhouse team, Spain. True to that, Spain is now head-to-head with the Dutchmen of Netherlands as they clash for the Finals Cup. I don’t have a bet between the two because I haven’t seen them play before, popularity-wise (and according to the octopus) - I think it’s going to be Spain.

King and vagabonds

After beating the Boston Celtics, NBA 2010 champs LA Lakers are now faced with the threat of another teams that recently acquired Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the “KING” himself, LeBron James. Now that Wade, Bosh and James has signed with the Miami Heat, it seems that they will create a powerhouse team that may topple Phil Jackson’s “three-peat” legacy. I am such a fan of Dwyane Wade (not really a Miami fan-girl) more than the entire Lakers ballers, and now that LeBron will really be teaming up with him, I might find it hard to root whole-heartedly to them. I kind of have issues with the “king”. But definitely, the upcoming conference will be a treat and threat to basketball fanatics all over the world.

PBA Playoffs

Now let’s go local. The playoffs is about to kick start with the Quarterfinals Series with wildcard baby Rain or Shine Elastopainters against B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados, and the Alaska Aces up against the Baranggay Ginebra Kings. San Miguel Beermen and the (all star) Talk n’ Text Tropang Texters has gained the outright semis berth and are waiting for the teams that will resurface from the Quarterfinals. RoS and the Llamados will definitely put up a show as their key players are now on the limelight. Of course, James Yap and all his jazz (and pizzazz) against the “Sol Train” Sol Mercado who has been playing very well that led them to get through the wildcard phase. On the other side of the bracket, the Alaska Aces will face the Gin Kings with their new point guard, Topex Robinson. The Gin Kings on the other hand has just redeemed their sorry losses with the acquisition of new import Chris Daniels. I am a huge, huge Ginebra fan, but I think the two teams who might fight for the Fiesta Cup will be TnT and RoS. (It’s hard to topple the Texters now with Kelly Williams and Rain or Shine has definitely put up the most heart to the series so far)

I could go on talking about sports the whole day because everything is just so huge and has been a huge deal as well. Every sporting event is hyped and exciting as it can be. It makes me miss Twitter more. (I can never let go of the Twitter issue, right?) :D

NBA (not-so) All Star Weekend

The 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas just wrapped up this morning. Finally.

It has been one of the most boring All-Star Festivities ever. The slam dunk competition was quite lame. Nate Robinson is such a high flier and has mad skills and creativity to back it up to prove his win for the title, but he hasn't shown any of those in his "winning" dunk. Winning the 3-point shootout competition is Celtic Paul Pierce. Steve Nash grabbed the title for the skills challenge beating his younger opponents in just 29 seconds.

Although the slam dunk competition was a "fail", the All-Star Game was another story. Even without Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul in the Western Conference lineup, the West team still gave a huge performance that led to a close fight with the Eastern Conference lineup. Still, D-Wade and LeBron James pulled fantastic plays. The game ended with the East winning against the West with just 2 points. Dwyane Wade was named MVP of the game.

In another NBA news, Kobe Bryant has just been named as Player of the Decade. He bested other players, including LeBron James, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O'Neal. That's another title to boost his ego.

This All-Star has been so-so. From LBJ's flop Slam Dunk appearance, to Kobe not playing for the ASG. But the game still garnered the most number of live viewers with the total count of 108,713. Let's see how this will affect next year's festivity. See you in LA! (more ego boost for Kobe)
